Heriberto “Herbie” Flores is the founder of the New England Farm Workers’ Council (NEFWC), established in 1971 to support migrant and seasonal farmworkers and low-income communities. Born in Puerto Rico and shaped by a childhood of hardship and his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Flores dedicated his life to helping others overcome adversity.
Over more than five decades, he grew NEFWC into a multi-service organization providing workforce development, education, housing support, and human services across the Northeast. His leadership also contributed to broader community initiatives focused on economic development, housing, and youth opportunities.
Recognized for his lifelong commitment to service, Flores has received numerous honors, including being named a BusinessWest Difference Maker. His legacy reflects a deep belief in empowering individuals and strengthening communities for future generations.
